Position Adjustments and Changes in Buying and Selling During Consolidation
Continuation and Complex Structures
Lesson / WY-05-22
Trend continuation structures share a chart feature: consolidation preserves the original directional structure, and the trend subsequently resumes. Several position changes may occur during consolidation, but price and total volume cannot identify the exact combination. Selling after an advance need not mean distribution; it may be profit-taking whose effect is limited by continuing buying support. Buying after a decline need not mean accumulation; it may be short covering, after which supply returns. Charts cannot directly identify participant categories behind orders. Test explanations through price responses to trading activity.
