The Nine Buying and Selling Tests and Trading Scenarios
Decisions, Execution & Validation
Sam Rivera
Full Chapters / WY-06-27
The nine buying and selling tests are pretrade evidence checks within the Wyckoff five-step method. They bring together whether the prior trend is nearing a potential target, stopping action, price-volume changes, trend structure, relative strength, a horizontal base, and potential reward to risk in one procedure. Their value is in requiring analysts to explain the evidence for each item and expose unresolved contradictions. They are not a forecasting model, and the nine tests are not nine independent votes. The number satisfied is neither a probability of success nor a position-sizing rule.
